My God. I just found out while I was perusing the Internet on a "break" that there is a new Special Edition Romeo + Juliet DVD out (released March 12, 2002). AAAAH!! I want I want!!
It's $17.99 at Future Shop according to their website but I've got to check this out. AAAAH!! It's got actual features and everything!!!
AAAH! Sorry. I love the movie, what do you expect? My life hasn't been the same since 1996.
Just wanted to say that I finished In The Shadow Of A Saint yesterday, finally...now on to other things... Um, like the rest of the Accounting ISU project...
Mom and I went to Fairweather at the mall very briefly today -- we think we've found The Dress, but we're going back tomorrow morning to make sure that's the one. So I guess I'm probably going to the Formal...? Hmm.
Sunday, March 17, 2002, 10:23 PM I am in London (Ontario...) right now -- I've been here since Friday. When my mom and I drove up here, I was the one who did the driving -- my first time doing the 2-hour drive to London.
I didn't bring Great Expectations with me to London so that I wouldn't (couldn't) be tempted to read it instead of In The Shadow Of A Saint. It worked. I'm now more than halfway through, to Chapter 10 of a total of 18 chapters. Yay.
I don't have a computer at home in Toronto and my brother has packed away his laptop already so I can't use it today -- hopefully I will find a way to publish this soon.
-- 10:28 PM Actually, today I did end up getting my computer back *smiles joyously* So it's all good. It was a little strange not having access to information right at my fingertips and it's nice to have my computer back. All the computer guy could tell us was that there are a lot of things wrong with the computer. Yeah. Not like I didn't know my computer was screwed up before.
Oh yeah, one more thing -- while I was in Ottawa I bought Great Expectations by Charles Dickens and started reading it. It's very good and have only put it down out of necessity and a tiny bit of guilt -- it's much more interesting than the book I'm supposed to finish over the break, In The Shadow Of A Saint by Ken Wiwa.
Well anyway I've got some Stuff I've got to do right now, so maybe (and I do mean maybe) I'll stop procrastinating for a while and get some of it done. Thanks for stopping by!
On the way back home from visiting U of T today I was on the subway, and during the brief time in which I wasn't asleep, I read a short "Poetry on the Way" poem entitled For John Thompson. This is the poem:
Some nights
poetry
is not enough
And I was thinking about that for a while, because if a poet says that sometimes poetry isn't enough -- poetry isn't enough to make her (I forget the poet's name, but it was Heather something, I think) happy, or to make her feel good -- then something must be seriously wrong. A poet would have to be very sad or very unhappy for poetry to not help him or her, for poetry to not be enough. I just thought it was an interesting concept.
Something else that is interesting is what is considered Art or Poetry. Some of the art that I looked at at the National Gallery in Ottawa was so simple that someone like me could have produced the same piece of work; the only difference being, of course, that I didn't, and that I wouldn't think to sell it as a piece of art if I had. Strange indeed.
Anyway there are a few books that were forgotten/need to be added to the Booklist...
- Great Expectations, Charles Dickens
- Bridget Jones's Diary, Helen Fielding
- Spadework, Timothy Findley
- Catch-22, Joseph Heller
- Lives of Girls And Women, Alice Munro
- Hateship, Friendship, Courtship, Loveship, Marriage, Alice Munro
- 1984, George Orwell
- The Manticore, Robertson Davies
- World Of Wonders, Robertson Davies
- Harry Potter And The Order Of The Phoenix, J.K. Rowling (U)
Yesterday I finally finished reading The Handmaid's Tale and I actually kind of really like it. Why? I don't know. Maybe because it's about the future, and because that society is so different from ours the way it is now, but that you can see how that new society could have derived (sorry) from present-day society. You can see how all of the things we do now could cause the society to change into that society -- it wouldn't even be that difficult.
I still do think that Margaret Atwood is nuts, though. :)
